THE FIRE AND THE KNIFE

The Fire and the Knife
1082 Queen Street West, Toronto, Ontario
October 23, 2009 to November 22, 2009

Reception October 30, 6 pm to 9 pm

Personal transformation requires sacrifice. With The Fire and the Knife I explore the meaning and necessity of sacrifice, which is central to the moral guidelines of the Anna Ward Brouse society. With a previous show, The Revelations of Anna Ward Brouse, I created the society’s origin story. Now, drawing inspiraton from the Shakers, Freemasons and the Girl Guides, I produce its pedagogical hardware: rugs, playing cards, portraits, and dioramas—each with a message to convey.
This exhibit was generously funded by The Toronto Arts Council and The Ontario Arts Council.
