ART GALLERY OF ONTARIO RESIDENCY
As part of my summer residency at the Art Gallery of Ontario I have set up a uniform factory in the Community Gallery (located in the Weston Family learning centre where admission is free). This space acts as: an installation, performance space and training facility for the upcoming Nuit Blanche project Made it then, Make it again. This twelve hour long production is a choreographed and romanticized dream of manufacturing as a fulfilling occupation and means to personal and social well being. Along with Naomi and Josh Hall, we will involve over a hundred volunteers as workers and illustrate the production of fabric, ceramic, metal and paper objects.
We are currently recruiting volunteers, please contact us if you are interested in participating. Three and six hour shifts are available. This is a great opportunity to learn how everyday objects are made.
Thank you to Ryerson Polytechnic University for generously loaning us the machines for this project.
THE WARDENS
The Wardens
Solo Exhibition
Hamilton Artists Inc
May 10 - June 24, 2011
At Hamilton Artists Inc., Goodchild invites the viewer into the world of the Wardens through a maze of canvas arches and rooms. Reminiscent of a travelling spiritual show, the rooms contain objects, text, mysterious games and textile hangings that lead the viewer to question childhood preconceptions and ideas of self-improvement. Through toys, puppets and game boards, Goodchild is commenting on a reluctance in our culture to “take up the mantle” of adulthood while at the same time reveling in the magic of youth, believing that to bear the responsibility of maturity you must remain open to the beauty and wonder of life.

A Homespun Web features the work of three regional contemporary artists using traditional craft to provide engaging social and political commentary. Heather Goodchild, Noelle Hamlyn, and Tazeen Qayyum appropriate a variety of time-honoured processes including embroidery, spinning, smocking, rug hooking, and miniature painting in contemplation of the issues facing our increasingly global culture.
